Category: accessible Devices
Hey guys. I'd like to talk about cell phones and what everyone owns and has owned or wants to own or anything else. first, i had my lg vx4500 on verizon witch was excelent for 2005. then in october of 06 i went to cingular witch is now ATNT with a nokia 9300 witch i thought was excelent. untill in may of this year, i went to a moto q from ATNT and don't know how i got along without it. this is by far the best phone i have ever sceen from ATNT. not only that you can get mobile speek from atnt for 89 dollars. now the keyboard on the q takes some getting used to but overall i have grown to like my q.
Now i actually need someone's input heer on the new lg nv from verizon. now the reason this phone has caught my attention is i understand it can read text messages? i'd like audio of it doing that and also i was curious as to whether or not it reads the keys when you respond to a text message? if this is the case, that is great! That would make me happy. i have allways applauded lg for it's work on accessibility. i remember my vx4500 was the first taste of accessible phones for me. I was floored when i found it could tell me who was calling and i could program numbers and find out the time and signal strenth and things like that from it. The 4500 was a popular phone in the VI comunity for quite a time. now i think the nv 2 will be taking that place as far as out of box accessibility. Thanks you all.
Let's see...I've had the Audiovox CDM9900 with verizon, which had some accessibility, then I got the VX4500. Like you, I switched to AT&T with the Nokia 6682, however, I didn't like AT&T's coverage, so ended up back on Verizon with the Q. I didn't like that one, so got a PN820, but when the SMT5800 came out, I had to have it, so I bought it outright. I regret that decision every single day though. The PN820 was the best of all Verizon's Windows Smartphones, and it's a shame it never really caught on.
Omg! I'd love to know more about this phone as well. Our contract with Sprint will be over in November so we're looking into which company sounds the cheapest and the most accessible. AT&T looks really appealing to me because they seem to have less hidden fees and taxes to pay than Verizon does. However, My fiance is interested in going with Verizon only because he really likes their service. If the LG NV can read text messages then that sounds really good. I have heard good things about the Moto Q. as well but I suppose if the LG NV can do it all without having to buy mobilspeak then we should probably go with that.
i for one enjoy ATNT's coverage. this nv seems to be the buz of the VI community now. I have not sceen any podcasts on it though witch is real strange. I will have to admit verizon's coverage has improved a great deal. I know people that hate sprint. I never have had sprint. I hear that people can not wait untill there contract is over with them. I will not say anything on that though. anyway, this is an interesting topic and it could be a lot of fun. i'll keep doing research on this nv. maybe i will make it to the verizon store one day soon because my grand parrents are on verizon.
i have had many phones, first, back in the analogue days I had a motor-roller something or other, it was a flip with a extendable twig, then i had a nokia 1611 which was portable for its day, huge now of course. then through a couple of erizon phones, to a nokia 3210 and 3510. the first accessible phone I had was the nokia 9210I then the 9300, and now I have a n82. i like the 9300 which I keep as a spare, but the n82 is really great in itself. i use talks.
well i had the nokia 3600 with cingular then switched to the nokia e62 then after that used the black jack and now i am using the black jack 2.
How do you like the BlackJack? Could you give us a description of the phone?
I'm on Verizon and use a 8300. I'd have to say, the only thing this phone is missing is the accessible text message feature. Other than that, I really like it! The mp3 player is simple and great; I love the ability to send myself pix message with a ringtone atached; the buttons feel great and all the out of the box features are great.
I've looked at the 8350 and wasn't as impressed. I just didn't like the feeling of the phone.
Maybe I should give the nv another look, but at first glance, I found it offally chunky.
AT&T has tempted me as well, because of the accessibility features they offer. They come across as wanting to do more for the visually impaired or deaf customer. My hesitation is the coverage. I just don't know if it is as good as Verizon. I've been on verizon for 6 years now.
My new every two, is this August. Guess it'll be decision making time again...lol!
ATNT has great coverage in my ippinion. i think you will like atnt a lot. it's defanatly worth a shot.
When I left Verizon, the girl who canceled my contract for me said, "You'll be back when your Cingular contract runs out." She was quite confident in her statement, but ten she said, "They always come back." It wasn't 6 months that I used Cingular/AT&T, that I was paying the ETF and coming back with my proverbial tail between my legs. Lesson learned.
Lol, how cheeky of the Verizon woman!
Was it because of the AT&T coverage? Other drawbacks?
I have the blackjack2 from ATT and love it. it supports a 4 gig memorycard so there you go you have an mp3player and a phone. You have like 7 hours of battery life I have yet to drain the battery and i listen to music and text at the same time. I have mobilespeak and love it. I have to say I hate the q because mobilespeak doesn't work while your in a call so if you have an incomeing call how do you no who it is if mr or ms voice can't tell you. I mean you pay all that money for the software shouldn't you be able to hear it all the time. I love the blackjack2, the keyboard makes texting so much faster. The phone is 200 with a 100 rebate card which takes like 2 months to get to you but hey what can you do. I have been with att sinse 01 and have had no problems with them. You have more options for a phone with either mobilespeak or talks than you do with varizion
It was the coverage thing. When I switched back to Verizon, I told them what had been happening with AT&T, and the girl that switched me back told me it was a common complaint. Calls dropping, circuits jammed up, things like that. I mean, come on! America's largest digital network should also be America's best, but alas, it's not!
First to answer the question originally on the board I have only had one phone the 4750 from lge. To the poster above who said they had a q through atnt I am curious. is it gsm or cdma ? I always thought atnt's main focus was gsm but maybe I am wrong Also did you get the new wm6 q? If so how do you like wm6.
i've only had one phone and it's the one i'm using now. it's a LGAX 390. for my next phone i may consider a moto q or something like it, not sure on that matter yet. guess i need user experiences with the phone to help me make a decission.
Actually, verizon has the most phones that will work with mobilespeak. They have seven, and no one else has that many. I checked.
Seven phones? Is that info on the mobile speak website?
My first mobile phone never supported talks or any speech, so I just used it as a phone to talk to people on. Then I got the owasys phone which is made for the blind, but thought the speech wasn't that great on it, so this year, I got a nokia 6630 with talks on it from someone here at college. I think the speech on talks is much better than the owasys phone.
Jesse, can you tell us more about the pn820? I notice with a 2-year price, it is $29 on VZW right now. Pretty great deal!
The PN 820 is just a regular flip phone, and yes, the information about the seven phones comes from the codefactory website. I don't usually say thing without doing my homework. Trust me. I researched most of this, and to be honest, It is good that there are programs out there that make your phone completely accessible. However, most sighted people hardly use every application that is on their phone. For example, not every one uses the internet. Of course, lots of people do, but if you have alaptop, you shouldn't have to pay more money for a phone internet plan when you already have access to the internet. All I wanted my phone for was for texting. I do not believe that verizon will be making the PN 820 for much longer, so if you want it, you'd better grab it now.
I'm Currently using Metro PCS and I have a Samsun. Forgive my spelling. Anyway I heard they also have the Moatarola Q. Does anyone else use Metro PCS? If so, are there any products speech frendly?
My first accessible phone was a nokia 6620 with Talks from Cingular. I recently switched to a nokia N75 with Mobile Speak. I've been on Cingular/at&t for 6-7 years and haven't had any coverage problems, but it may depend on where you live. I did notice that while I was in the Boston area for a few months that I had more dropped calls and coverage issues.
There is a good podcast right now on www.blindcooltech.com explaining the LGVX9900 otherwise known as the nv. This is the only LG phone that has accessible text messaging for blind people. Go check out the podcast if you are interested. I only listened to the first few minutes of it since I don't plan on getting this phone, but it sounded like it would be pretty informative.
ooo wow. Thanks for sharing this, Becky. I will defintely check out the podcast. lol I don't go on that site much only because it seems so disorganized. But it's cool because they have podcasts about a lot of different things. I listened to the beginning of this one podcast about makeup and no offense but that girl really annoyed me. haha She sounded too fake. lol But I digress. heheheh
I use a moto cue and love it from sprint. My service is great.
Hi. I'm the one who recorded the podcast on the lg env. I love love this phone. I've never owned a phone with mobile speak or anything like that, because I just don't have the funds. If you don't care about using the web or anything like that, I recommend you take a look at the env. For those of you who are interested the link to the review on my site is http://www.darcyandholly.com/podcasts/hollys_env_review.mp3. Hope you enjoy.
i no you van send tect with the phone if your blind but is there a way that you can reply as well? I have a friend that was thinking bout getting that or the new nb2
Yes, set your phone to read all prompts. It will read and let you reply. I have the ENV 2. I know. i love it. If you want a bigger keyboard, the voyager does the same thing. Check it out.
The voyager has a touch screen on the outside. yOu could probably still use the inner keypad, but I'm not sure it would be quite as convinient. Just imho.
Just to clarify, while verizon currently sells the most phones that would work with Mobile speak smart phone or mobile speak pocket, At*t has the most potential accessible solutions. Because they are on the GSM network, not only do you have the windows based phones to choose from, but you have several simbian based devices to choose as well. There are porbably 10 nokia devices alone one can use mobile speak on.
As for the pn820, I treid it for a month and sent it back. I never got reasonable battery usage and the blue tooth support was deffinitly lacking.
As for the voyager, I had a friend who said she never used the touch screen, because she could do every thing on the keypad. I think mobile speak is great, but for some of us who don't have six hundred plus dollars to spend, and who are not with ATNT, I would suggest going with an LG.
Not to seem argumentative, but $600 is a bit more than a package would cost if using mobile speak.
For example I recently purchased a Moto Q from best buy with a two year contract with VZw for $29.95 and my Mobile speak cost $249 so
deffinitly not unreasonable to find a phone with a two year contract via the internet. Also, it's not uncommon for a retailor to sell you a device cheaper than VZS or At&t may sell it to you for!
Personally I just set a client up with the EN V and for them it's an exceptional phone.
However, after using MSp and MSS for the past couple of years, for me it wouldn't be an option.
Kind regards
I recently got the moto q with sprint and I really like it. I tried both talks and mobile speak and decided to go with mobile speak before I didn't really like the 3 lives thing with dolfin. And also, because for me it was easier to install.
Whatever you choose the great thing about getting the moto q with sprint is that they'll pay for it. A t and t makes you pay $99 if I am correct and sprint gives it to you for free. Also the signal is great!
I had both cingular and t-mobile and hated it.
Well, if you want something like the SMT 5800, that is two hundred dollars. It all depends on what phone you buy, where you buy it, who you buy it from, and also, when you buy it. Still loving my enV 2.
on a side note if anyone has alltel virizion just bought them out so now maybe att will by sprint so we can still have the most subscribers cuz att rocks
Hey everyone, 2 further questions here.
1. Does any of these accessible solutions allow us to know who is calling when call waiting clicks through? I noticed mobile speak mentioned that on the q and pn820.
Secondly, has anyone used smart hal? How did you like it? Any better, different? I noticed they offer Eloquence Read for usa English.
Just some additional curiosities.
I still can't decide what I'd like to do! LG ENV2 or jump into the mobile speak world!
morning Polka Dots,
Keep in mind what I'm saying is a bit biased as I've been using code factory products for 4 years now, although I did start out with talks.
To answer your first question, many devices have the capability to read out not only the caller id for in coming calls but call waiting calls as well!
I personally couldn't live without this feature as I use my phone for business and often I need to know the "importance" if you will of the call coming in.
The two devices you mentioned above can do this as well as the black jack to, and the original blackjack! Most of the pocket PC phone devices can do this as well but these are typically more expensive options.
I've used pocket hal before, and I didn't find it extremely intuitive and I found there support less than responsive. While I realize other people have had better experiences with dolphin this was mine so it's what I base my opinions on!
As for an LG phone verses a smart phone using a CF product there are several things to consider! First we'll lay price aside for a moment as I'm a firm believer that a smart shopper can find a great deal on an accessible device even without using the discount from AT&T. First what will you use the device for. If your needs will go further than just caller ID and contacts and text messaging then I think you'll have to consider a smart phone. Some of the advantages to the smart phone are obviously, the windows OS, which includes internet explorer as well as windows media player and pocket word as of more recent versions of the smart phone. Moreover, you can install third party apps such as Audible, and In the not so ndistant feature a GPS application from Code factory. MSS also supports a number of portable braile displays. There is also book share support as well as the ability to open .BRF files on the phone and read. I personally think it passes for a decent MP3 player as well. I have 3 4 Gig cards that I carry around with me and I can put in any music I'd like to hear at any given time!
However, if you're looking for a solution that allows you to know whose calling, and to send and receive text messages and assign ring tones and enter new contacts than an LG solution such as the ENV would likely meet your needs. As for voices Mobile speak smart edition has several synth options including phonex and acapella to mention just a couple. Unfortunately, for licensing reasons they are unable to use Eloquence! I own a pocket PC phone and a SMart phone both using CF products and at this point in the game I could never go back.
Thanks big Dog. Ya know, that is something I really need to think about. The ability to text is the only aditional feature I am really wanting. Being to accessibly access my mp3's on the phone would be fun, but I don't understand how that would work. Code factory and others recommend running mobile speak on a mini card, so if I also had music on said card, would mobile speak read that info out?
I must have missunderstood; I thought I read on cf's website that the q and the pn820 won't be able to use mobile speak while on a phone call. So, I wouldn't know who is on call waiting, right?
I think what is tempting me this time around, is the price of the pn820 and that it is a flip phone. In the cell phone world though, it is a older model. What Autumn of '06 it came out?
Either way, I'm liking this descussion, very informative. Thanks!
I used the pn820 for several weeks, and to be honest, the only reason I returned it was it's bluetooth seemed a little shaky to me. Personally I've always run MSS from the device as I think it's slightly more responsive though there are differing opinions on this as well. I've actually had the opportunity to use code factory products on at least a dozen devices so I've experienced both working from an SD card verses from a device!
As for sounds on another call while using the 820, I had no problems. I could send messages hear who was calling as well as minippulate the menu options for speaker phone three way calls ETC. It's a very light weight device with exceptionally good sound!.
As for using it as an MP3 player the device has windows media player and CF have scripted it so that it feels much like using Winamp.
As I said in an earlier post never hurts to check around I recently bought the moto Q from best buy for $29.95 with a two year contract, so there are certainly deals out there to be had!
I Forgot to say that buying the 820 isn't exactly a bad option now that CF products can be moved from device to device with there new licensing feature. In Otherwords in the next couple of years you could always move mobile speak smart phone to your next device so you're not reinventing the wheel!
Hey, here's a little question... I was just playing around on my lg 8300 and was wondering about the voice. The female voice, is it a tts voice we would know? Like loquendo or acapela? I was just curious, she's quite clear.
Now, if I remember correctly, she isn't the voice used in the ENV to read out the txt, right?
No, I don't believe so. I just realized the other day, that the LG VX 5400 can send text messages. Just FYI
Send, but not read out, right? If they'd only add that feature to the 8300, I'd have no reason to upgrade. I love this phone! I think the two speakers on the top are cool...grin!
It might be able to read-out. You just have to set it properly.
I wonder how you would set it propperly? And did someone say on here that they got something for free with Sprint? Was it the phone or mobilespeak? lol If Sprint has phones that work well I'm not sure if I'd change service after all. I only use a little but I want the caller ID feature.
Hmmm, audiovox has something as well. I don't know if it's offered from sprint. You would have to have someone in verizon set it. You would just set the prompts feature to read all prompts. It's that easy. That's how I get access to a lot of features on my enV.
Hello everyone!
The first phone that I ever used was an LG 5200 from Verizon Wireless. Then I started using the LG 5300. Currently I am using the Verizon Wireless VX6700 with Mobile Speak Pocket. I think it is ok, I guess. However, I didn't really want a PDA phone, I just want a phone that can read who's calling, my contacts, and text messages. Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!
Macy
the EN V 2 or the voyager. I know you spent a ton on that phone because I just priced it and it waas about five hundred dollars or the 6800 is. Well, the voyager is another one you can look at. It does have a touch screen, but the touch screen does not have to be used. I have a friend who is completed sighted who has this phone, and she told me she doesn't use the touch screen at all.
I don't know what I am using now, but I have just today ordered from ATnT the Pantech Duo which is accessable with moble speak, and I can't wait, it will allow me to access the internet, text, media messages, and everything else that I have never been able to before. I have been with ATnT, cengular for every phone I've had, which for me is only 2, now three. I got my first one when I was 15, so for 6 years, but I have never been able to access anything, always needing a sighted person to do it for me, but no longer, I can't wait and I am happyer than a clam in water!!
ok, I have a friend who has the same phone I do and mobile speak speaks everything while she is on the phone. Is this or is this not possible on the motoorola q from sprint? She says when I ask her a friend set it for her in miami but I am sorry I do not see how to do this.
no is not possible on the motoq
and yeah sprint pays for your mobile speak
Thanks for the suggestions. Does anyone know how much the Voyager or the EN V 2 cost? Thanks.
The env is about, depending on if your two year is up, fity -150 dollars while the voyager is 250.
For the folks using mobile speaks, have we established, if call waiting is read out?
Also, if you need to run mobile speak via a sd card, will it read out your music on the sd card as well?
Thank you, still undecided.
I believe the answer to your first question is yes. I don't know about the answer to your second question.
I believe the answer to your first question is yes. I don't know about the answer to your second question.
Has anyone heard ofMetro PcS? It is a service in witch you can talk all you want and you never have to sign a contract. I am currently using a Sampsin and it is not eaccessible at all. I have to have a sighted person add my contacts for me. And I can't tell who is calling or anything like that. I asked metro Pcs if they had any talking phones and when a sighted person says talking product, it means five words and that's it. Anyone else use Metro PCS?
hey john. as i told you on the phone you really need to go to atnt my friend. it's way better in my oppinion and the sound quality of calls is way better. plus i hear the coverage is way better than metro pcs.
I have never heard of Metro PCS.
It is a company with unlimited minuts anytime and no signing of contracts. The bad thing is there customer service in my opinion sucks. I called there customer service center 5 time in one day and the audamated voice system kept saying "Sorry! I can't tranfer you to an aijent right now." And As far as I know, they have no accessible cellphones. But I can't find that out. And I have a Sampsong R 400 and can't set different ringtones for indevidual contacts.
As far as I know, Metro PCS is only in florida right now but I could be wrong.
Just a couple of days ago, a frend of mine helped me figure out how to set ring tones for different contacts. So that's good for now. However the phone doesn't talk to me but I can at least tell witch one of my contacts is calling by the sound of the ring tone.
Hi all,
My first accessible phone was a Nikia 6682 through AT&T, still have it after 2 or so years. PHone's getting old, but I love the hell out've the thing. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new phone, but I don't have a boat load of cash to spend on it either. ANy suggestions?
I was thinking the n75, but wasn't sure. The Q is out of the question because I'd like to know who's on my call waiting, or be able to check the time/battery on a call, and if I can't do that I won't get the phone.
I'd also think it would be cool to have push to talk. A few of my friends have it. What do you guys reccomend?
Kaiser.
I'm currently using the LG 8350, and I'm quite happy with it. It's my first "accessible" cell phone, so I can't give a good comparison. My only complaints are: while I can here the caller ID for incoming calls, I can't figure out how to check it after the fact. I can, however, access missed calls. My other minor complaint is that there are buttons on the outside that can easily be pressed while in my pocket, and I haven't found an easy way to lock the phone. Other than that, I dig it.
my thoughts have defanatly changed on verizon. i do not have them but they are a good company. they actually have great call quality. and there customer service is good as well. the envy is an excelent phone. i like it. i had 5 minutes with it and was amazed at the out of box accessibility. it can read text messages, caller id and the majority setting of the phone. it can not read everything. and the phone is pricy in my understanding as well.
Mine was not. However, I got it on bargain. And all of my friends who got it got theirs for a good deal as well. It just depends on whether your two year is up or not.
I think, if you want to lock the phone, you have to hold down the pound key.
I finally switched from Metro PCS to Verizon Wireless and I have the LG VX9100 NV2. I like it alot. The only thing is I want to download ringtones independently and I can't do that the thing doesn't talk me through that. Any Ideas?
And I went into my sounds on the phone and I was going to set up a ringtone for one of the sound and the sound I was going to use, I accidentaly deleted it. Oops. It was a sound that came with the phone. anyway I can get it back?
It was the fourth sound. You have the train, the birds, some syphany, then the sound, and baytoavin. Its the sound before the baytoevin. Anyone no what I'm talking about?
Ok I need to ask macy what plan do you have with sprint and how much do you pay every month? Also is there a website for this metro pcs. I would like to find out more about them. I think it is a shame that they don't have any accessable phones, but I can live with that if I have to. How much do you pay monthly for the service. Also what about pay as you go? I thought about something with free nights and weekends, but most of the plans are so expensive. I will only have around $40 left every month as I will be going into housing which does noyt alow longdistence calls. If someone could answer that for me that would help.
Matthew
Go to Metropcs.com
firstly, am not sure how true this is but my friend told me that Metro PCS has the motorola Q. DO not quote me ok she just mensioned it last week. Now my friend lives in Atlanta and has them so I think they are other places then FL.Next, I officially hate sprint pcs. The customer center people never speakk good english, they have all of these little fees on my bill, and the internet speeds suck. So yeah I am switching back to ATT in 2 weeks. I want to know which one is better Panteck Duo or Blackjack 2. All advice please.
Thanks. I'll give it a look. Thanks.
I Have some mitty files on my computer I want to use as Ring Tones on the LG Vx9100 EnV2. How would I go about doing that? Anybody have any Ideas? And What File extensions do ring tones have?
you want the blackjack2 to the person that is switching back to att for blind people att is the way to go vzw sucks wood never go with them and so does sprint
Rail Racer, I believe you just send them as a pix message. Your number at vzwpix.com
That works for me. Then once you listen to the message, right soft key, option 4 for save a ringtone, and hit ok. That should work for you.
BTW y'all, I received my env2 today and absolutely love it!!! And ordering online is a breaze and so much less money! I got the env2 and the ice blue chocolate for $32 total! wooh-hooh!
Thank you. I will try that.
It didn't work. I went to the websight and it is verry inaccessible and I tried sending it to my number@vzwpix.com as an e-mail and it fired back to my e-mail address. What next. Am I doing something wrong?
You don't need to go to a website. Use your email program. I do it via outlook express. I need to add one more ring tone. If I need to add further instruction, just in case I missed telling you something, I'll post here. Good luck!
Ok, let's see how thorough I can be.
Once you have the portion of the song you want...
choose send to, mail recipient
Your number at vzwpix.com
Have your subject line be just the name of your song. This will save you from any editting in your phone.
When you receive the message, open phone, hit ok, and the song should play.
Right soft key, option 4
Then ok again, and the phone should save save to phone.
Then do what you want with it. The thing that seems different about this phone, is the order of the ringtones. I haven't figured that one out yet.
Hope, I was helpful and you are successful!
I will Try it. I doun't use Outlook. I use my yahoo account.
Ok. So I go to yahoo.com. log in, go to my mail, go to compose a new message, in the recipiant box I type, for example: 8134807782@vzwpix.com, type the name of the song in my subject field, attach the file, then send. I still fires back saying, unavailable. I will see what else I can do in the mean time.
Oh! I figured it out! I needed to put the dashes in the phone mber! MP3 is the best. Mitty sounds bad on the sellphone. and wav is just ignored. But now I have lots of ring tones! yes!!! yes!!! yes!!!
not sure if this was the topic that was looking for an accessible cricket phone or not, but any altell, sprint or virizon phone can be flashed to cricket the true technical term isn't flashed because you aren't flashing a rom in most cases you are updated prl's but who am I to say. so go get an lg 4500 or 9900 and put them on cricket. there you go. I've done this for many clients.
I did something stupid to my ringtones. I went to delete one I did'ntn't want on my LG ENV2 phone and I accidently deleted all my custom ringtones. Luckly I got most of them back. But in my sounds folder, I used to have dream Sequence, baytoaven, the christmas carol, and the train. I converted thoughs to ringtones and deleted the original sounds. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get them back? I called virizon wireless and they wouldn't help me with that procedure. But at least for now I got most of my ringtones back.
Wow. This is a great topic. My fiance and I are planning to get the enV2 with verizon and these posts about creating your own ringtones are really helpful. Thanks for that. I can't wait to try it out once I get my phone. For the person who ordered it online, was the process accessible? What if you don't have the best credit? I've never ordered cell service online before but if it is indeed cheaper, I'd love to go that route. How long did it take you to get your phone? We don't have a printer so I hope there isn't anything we need to print out and sign. If you could explain a bit about the process, I would be very greatful. Thank you.
Michelle
hi to post number 21, i too have metro pcs. i like the price. i am not sure what phone i use. i do know they discontinued it so i am looking for another. to my knowledge their phones are not blind friendly. i only use mine to make calls and use the voice command.
to poster 22 how do u like the n75? i may getit.
hisenthusiasticlova, I'm not sure about the best credit part. Ordering it online was completely accessible. Mind you, I was upgrading, not brand new with vzw. Even activating the phones would have been accessible, because they email you the instructions. Grin, my instruction arrived a day or to after my phones...odd.
Anyway, it was amazing! I ordered around 3 in the afternoon on a Friday and they arrived the next morning via fedex. Saturday delivery!!! I didn't expect that! I signed for the package and there you go! Brand new phones!
Let me know if I can be any further help.
BTW everyone, I'm a little irritated... Not sure if this was a lg decision or vzw, but they have taken away some features, that I quite liked and used! It seems no more setting a ringtone for restricted or no caller ID calls, and no more individual txt ringtones for contacts. The txt ringtone thing, I could let go, but the restricted phone calls, I depended on that one! I instently new, to ignore that ringtone! I'm not sure who to address this issue with. Part of me is hoping I'm wrong and missing something, but I don't think so.
You can do the caller ID calls. I don't know about the restricted calls though. I'm sure you can.
Wouldn't it be cool if you could change the startup and shutdown sounds? And the battery charge complete sound makes this wimpy ding sound. It would be nice to change that too.
I don't know about you guys, but i have Verison!!! I always had good service, and than like that, boom!!! Nothing!!!! Everyone in my family is on it, and I hve AT&T now, and the coverage is great!!! As foor pricing? I don't know much about the differences between Version and AT&T, but if I have better coverage, I'd be mre willling to pay a bit more. Most screen readers for phones seem to run on Nokia. i'm only speaking for Talks, I see now, but I haven't done anything with Mobiel Speak or Pocket Hal, so I can't say anything on the subject. The $350 pricetag on Talks is well worth it, in my oppinion. It oworks, great, hardly crashes, and makes your phone more accessible than anything you could ever wish for from out-of-the-box phones.
you all are so forgetting about one carrier who is great. T-Mobile! Just because you all have heard it is not good, does not mean it is bad. I have t-mobile and have for a long long time, some of that time was with accessible phones and some with out the accessible phones. I love the service I get wtih them. And I have the unlimited minutes, textings, pictures, emails and so on. The customer service is great and they have never treated me badly. Now of course they are just like all the other carriers who do not get visually imapairment, but they are getting better with this. I have had a motorola phone a long time ago, then went to accessible to the Nokia 6682, love that phone and wish I still had it but it bit the dust. Now I have a N75, i love this phone too, but I am a bit rougher with it than probably should be, so it will not last long at this rate. I have talks and like talks, I think MobileSpeak is too too too techie. And I am a geek at heart, it is too techie for my liking. I can hear my caller id, i text alot, even send emails, pictures, have the mp3 player, make ring tones, much much much more. I do wish I could use a instant messanger with my phone and the internet would be good, but I need money for both of those things. Like I said th N75 is a sweet phone, the only thing is that I am too rough on it, considering I talk alot. the BT thing on it is great. so like I said do not forget about T-Mobile. and if you are a NFB'er, go look around on the website and T-mobile will give any existing user and new users 10 percent off there bill. go check it out.
*Marshagirl*, have you checked out the dash, wing, or shadow via T-mobile? When I was considering switching, I was looking at each of those. The dash was pulling me the most. Very cool and putting mobile speak on it.
As for making ringtones and sending them to your vzw phone, how would you make a propper ringtone with goldwave/soundforge? I made some for my sister and some were just too basey and sounded really distorted while others sounded pretty desent. I just cut a bit of the song I wanted and sent them to her phone. However, I didn't know if you had to add other effects to make them sound nicer on a phone. Any suggestions?
Michelle
I just use a T Mobile phone as a phone, I don't need anything else, really. I don't use itotherwise.
